The Location

Monchique

The charm of Serra de Monchique is intoxicating. Only a few minutes from the resort is the quaint village of Monchique with cobble-stone lanes, traditional Algarvian houses adorned with tile roofs and wrought-iron balconies, eclectic shops, and cozy bars, cafes and restaurants.

The resort is located right next to the renowned spa town of Caldas de Monchique. The area is famous for its healing alkaline spring water, and is the only thermal spa in the Algarve. Local residents believe the waters are curative and increase life expectancy. The curative waters have been used for their health benefits since the Roman presence in the Iberian Peninsula, making it a 2000 year-old Thermal Village.

The region has evolved as a result of its four hot springs. Water is bottled at source and sold from three of the springs, while the fourth, is used by visitors, who come from all over the world to be healed, and restored, by its waters. One can drink from the springs as they bubble straight out of the ground, uncontaminated.

The famed springs’ temperature sits at a constant 32º C, and contains sodium as well as fluorine, which are believed to cure bone related problems, such as, rheumatism, and respiratory issues.

In these unspoiled mountains, outdoor activities are the favorite options. There are many designated trails for hiking and mountain biking. An amazing variety of colorful species make bird watching a delight. Go horseback riding or enjoy yoga or meditation in nature. From Foia, perched on the highest point in the Algarve, the panoramas of Southern Portugal are spectacular.
